Dr. Si Qiao joined the Urban Governance and Design Thrust (UGOD) of the Society Hub at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) as an Assistant Professor in January 2026. Her research focuses on the evolving challenges of socio-economic inequality in postmodern societies, with particular attention to how human behavior, urban spatial structure, and governance systems shape the allocation of resources across cities and regions. Taking an interdisciplinary approach, she integrates methods from geographic information science, urban planning, transportation engineering, and computational social science to develop urban planning and mobility governance frameworks that are interpretable, computable, and practically implementable.
She is also committed to advancing new forms of social data infrastructure by connecting societal needs with frontier data science technologies to support more responsive and evidence-based urban governance. Her work has been published in leading international journals in geography, transportation, and urban studies. She has led and contributed to multiple research projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong, and the Equal Opportunities Commission of Hong Kong. Her honors include the RGC Postdoctoral Fellowship, the Outstanding Research Postgraduate Student Award at the University of Hong Kong, and the Young Researcher Award of the International Transport Forum 2022.
